“Unlocking UK Economic Growth”

The All Party Parliamentary Group for Semiconductors launched its new paper Unlocking UK Economic Growth at a parliamentary reception on 2 February 2026 bringing together policymakers, industry leaders and experts to discuss the future of the UK semiconductor sector.

 

The paper sets out expert recommendations to ensure the UK Semiconductor Strategy is fully aligned with the Modern Industrial Strategy. Semiconductors are a foundational technology for economic growth productivity national security and resilience and must be treated as a strategic national capability.

 

Despite the UK’s strengths in research design and advanced technologies government support remains modest compared with international competitors. Targeted high impact policy interventions are essential to unlock private investment strengthen supply chains and secure the UK’s position in critical parts of the global semiconductor value chain.

 

The paper highlights the central role of semiconductors across key Industrial Strategy priorities including Advanced Manufacturing Clean Energy Defence Digital and Technologies and Life Sciences and concludes with clear recommendations to deliver long term economic and strategic advantage for the UK.
